On Wednesday 10th March, a 30-person contingent from Team Downer conducted a visit to HMAS ADELAIDE, Navy’s newest Landing Platform Dock (LHD), whilst she was alongside Fleet Base East. She had only recently returned from a deployment to Fiji to undertake relief efforts following Tropical Cyclone Yasa, so we’re very thankful for the time afforded by CAPT (N) Stuart Watters and his team for this fantastic opportunity. It was a privilege for Team Downer to visit ADELAIDE and to see first hand the maritime capabilities, industry groups like Team Downer, help the war fighter acquire and sustain. It brings into sharp focus why we do this in the first place – to support the men and women whose responsibility and commitment to this work is profound.
The tour group inspected the air operations, amphibious lift and health capabilities onboard, commencing with a very well received brief about the ship itself and the various missions it undertakes. Of note – the group enjoyed the refreshments served in the wardroom! The afternoon finished with a tour of the heavy tank deck and a BBQ lunch ashore at KUTTABUL.
