Since 2022, Providence has been delivering program and project management support to the Maritime Integrated Warfare Systems (MIWS) Branch within the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group’s ‘Ships’ Division. MIWS is responsible for managing high-priority projects aimed at upgrading the Royal Australian Navy’s Surface Fleet Warfare systems, including several Acquisition Category (ACAT) I and II programs.
Providence provides essential leadership and expertise to a 150-strong workforce embedded across various project and product teams. This includes the deployment of highly skilled professionals in key roles, such as Program Managers, Test and Evaluation Engineers, Deputy Project Managers, Product Managers, Project Support Officers, Commercial Managers, and Integrated Logistics Officers. Additionally, Providence offers specialist program management services for the SEA 5000 Hunter Class Frigate Program, a critical defence capability.
Operating under the Defence DSS and MSP Panel arrangements, Providence’s integrated workforce is structured to deliver outcomes-based contracting (OBC) and “as-a-service” style engagement, ensuring alignment with the Commonwealth’s strategic objectives. This matrixed approach drives focus and value across MIWS’s diverse and complex projects, advancing the goal of delivering superior outcomes for Defence.
This collaboration is one of seven Integrated Workforce Programs (IWPs) Providence has successfully delivered, contributing to the evolution of best-for-Defence teaming solutions that prioritise value for money and operational effectiveness.
Since 2022, Providence has been providing a dedicated Program Management Office (PMO) function to the Force Exploration Branch within the Vice Chief of the Defence Force Group. This 12-person specialist team supports the design, development, and implementation of the Defence Strategic Mobilisation Plan, a critical component of Australia’s national defence and resilience objectives as outlined in the Defence Strategic Review 2023 and National Defence Strategy 2024.
The PMO oversees the implementation of 407 mobilisation work packages across Defence, working closely with other Government Agencies to inform national policy on civil sector preparedness in times of crisis, war, or disaster. Due to the dynamic nature of this work, Providence’s team has continuously adapted, including re-budgeting and adjusting workstreams to align with evolving Defence priorities.
Providence’s team includes senior leaders, strategic advisers, project managers, and support staff, each contributing specialised expertise in areas such as scheduling, project support, and workforce management. Key achievements include the development of an actionable, costed Defence Mobilisation Plan, the establishment of governance and performance structures, and the cultivation of stakeholder relationships that promote a culture of mobilisation across Defence.
Additionally, Providence successfully reviewed and reduced the Defence mobilisation budget by approximately $600 million, establishing best practices in risk reporting, schedule development, and performance tracking at the enterprise and national levels.
