The University of Melbourne: hostile vehicle assessment

The University of Melbourne sought to understand the likelihood and consequence of a Heavy Vehicle Used as a Weapon (HVW) event against the Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID) and The Doherty Institute (PDI). Our team was engaged to work in support of the Aurecon, the Principal Consultant, in developing fit-for-purpose Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) strategies which were to be incorporated into the overarching design and construction AIID Facility and adjacent PDI building precinct.

As part of this engagement, we leveraged our experience from delivering similar outcomes to clients including strategies to mitigate hostile vehicle threat sources. Through this experience, we delivered a Vehicle Dynamics Assessment and a Hostile Vehicle Assessment. These were amalgamated to provide the University of Melbourne and Aurecon with a final Threat Context Statement which was used to inform the overarching HVM design of the new AIID facility and incorporated into the PDI building precinct.
